Making Black Tea at Home
-
1. Boil fresh water
Boil fresh water in a kettle or boiling pan until it is boiling hot (hint: bubbles on surface top, 90-100c).
Pro Tips:
Warm is no good! Bring water to rapid simmering to get the best tea taste.
-
2. Steeping wisely
Put 2g (1 tablespoon) of loose black tea leaves in a pot. Pour hot water on top of tea leaves, close the lid, and let it steep for 3-5 mins.
Pro Tips:
Use no more than 1 tablespoon of black tea leaves to get a balanced taste.
More steeping mins more strength, but limit to 5 mins at tops!
Add a small lemon slice or 2-3 mint leaves or 2-3 tulsi leaves in the pot, and let them steep together with tea leaves.
-
3. Pour or ice tea?
Pour it hot in a tea cup and enjoy the fresh black tea.
For iced black tea, open the pot lid and let it rest until room temperature.
-
4. I just love it cold
Open the lid and wait until the pot is down to room temperature.
Put the pot/cup in fridge and let it rest for at least 2-3 hours.
After 2-3 hours, pour iced black tea in a glass and add few ice cubes on top. Enjoy it refreshingly!
-
5. Avoid doing this
- Make sure to boil water until rapid simmering, no more no less.
- 1 tablespoon of loose black tea leaves is all you need, no more.
- Do not steep more than 4-5 mins.
- Add a slice of lemon or 2-3 mint leaves or 2-3 tulsi leaves from Step 2 onwards. Avoid doing so in Step 1 to get a balanced flavored black tea.
- Add honey when you are ready to drink it sweet.
