Making Green Tea at Home
-
1. Boil fresh water
Boil fresh water in a kettle or boiling pan until it is simmering hot (hint: bubbles start to form, 70-80c).
Pro Tips:
Avoid over boiling water for green tea to preserve the natural smooth taste.
-
2. Steeping wisely
Put 2g (1 tablespoon) of loose green tea leaves in a pot. Pour hot water on top of tea leaves, close the lid, and let it steep for 2-3 mins.
Pro Tips:
Use no more than 1 tablespoon of green tea leaves to preserve smooth natural aroma and slight bitterness.
Steep no more than 2-3 mins to preserve natural taste!
Add a small lemon slice or 2-3 mint leaves or 2-3 tulsi leaves in the pot, and let them steep together with tea leaves.
-
3. Pour or ice tea?
Pour it hot in a tea cup and enjoy the fresh green tea.
For iced green tea, open the pot lid and let it rest until room temperature.
-
4. I just like it cold
Open the lid and wait until the pot is down to room temperature.
Put the pot/cup in fridge and let it rest for 2-3 hours.
After 2-3 hours, pour iced green tea in a glass and add few ice cubes on top. Enjoy it refreshingly!
-
5. Avoid doing this
- Do not boil water more than needed.
- 1 tablespoon of green tea leaves is all you need, no more.
- Do not steep more than 2-3 mins.
- Add a slice of lemon or 2-3 mint leaves or 2-3 tulsi leaves from Step 2 onwards. Avoid doing so in Step 1 to get more balanced flavored green tea.
- Add honey when you are ready to drink it sweet.

FAQs
Green tea can be enjoyed throughout the day, from mornings till late evenings, until two hours before bedtime.
The tannins in green tea can increase stomach acid, potentially causing discomfort or nausea. Though the astringency levels vary based on the origin, type, and processing of green tea, but as a general rule, it’s best not to drink green tea on an empty stomach — especially first thing in the morning.
Svamingo Ceylon green tea is relatively gentle on an empty stomach with minimal astringency. Give it a try and share with us how you feel.
